2013-10-14: Information Station Column

I just got back from the ARSL (Association of Small and Rural Libraries) Conference – my head is still spinning with great ideas and possible new ideas for our library, but one of the best parts of the conference is getting to listen to authors.  One of the wonderful authors I heard speak was Craig Johnson.  If you are not familiar with the Longmire series – I just want to alert you that you are missing out!  Many of you may know Longmire from the A&E channel – but before it was ever a hit tv series, it was a fabulous series of books!  The Walt Longmire series is based on the daily work of a sheriff in Wyoming – his outdoor adventures in his job make up the suspenseful plots for this series of novels.  The mysteries are intricate and compelling, and the characters are intriguing!  Don’t miss this fascinating series!  We have them in the library to check out, in audio on OneClick Digital, and on 3M as ebooks.  We also have some on book on CD format to check out and the movies are on their way as well.  Heads up fans of William Kent Krueger or C. J. Box – this might be your next read!!!   -Becky

Looking for your next cozy read? Are you a fan of time-travel novels?  I have been reading a great author who introduces time-travel in a few different forms her in novels.  Her name is Susanna Kearsley and she is a new favorite of mine.  For those who love historical fiction, a little romance, and fantasy, I encourage you to try one of her books.  The Sioux Center Library has most all of her recent titles.  The plots are interesting, the history far from boring and the romance clean.  Start with The Winter Sea and then on to Firebird is my personal recommendation. Grab a spot on the sofa, a blanket, maybe a cup of tea and dive in – Enjoy!  -Kari
