NCC at the Library: Schedule of Classes and Events

  • September 16, 2014 @ 1pm -- Windows 8

Introduction to Windows 8.1 and the Internet (LEVEL 1) Did you buy a new computer with the Windows 8.1 operating system?

In this class, you will start by exploring how to move around within Windows 8.1 with the Start screen, Charms bar, and

desktop. You'll find out how to manage apps and programs on the Start screen and how to customize the Start screen and

desktop areas. Overall, you will gain a better understanding of how to organize and manage your new computer. All students

need to bring their own laptop to class. The latest updates to Windows 8.1 need to be installed on the laptops before class

begins. Computers will not be provided. 2 sessions Tuesday, 9/16 and 9/24 from 1-4p, Section #42334. Fee: $45

 

  • September 19, 2014 @ 1pm -- Windows 7

Introduction to Windows 7 and the Internet (LEVEL 1) This hands-on class will help you learn the basics of using a computer.

Each student will learn the key computer terms and practice using a computer with a Windows 7 operating system. Playing

computer games and doing simple tasks will help each student learn how to use the mouse, keyboard and commands.

Students will also learn the fundamentals of getting onto and searching the internet. 2 sessions on Fridays, 9/19 and 9/26 from

1-4p, Section #42346. Fee: $45

  • September 26, 2014 @ 1pm -- Windows 7

Introduction to Windows 7 and the Internet (LEVEL 1) This hands-on class will help you learn the basics of using a computer.

Each student will learn the key computer terms and practice using a computer with a Windows 7 operating system. Playing

computer games and doing simple tasks will help each student learn how to use the mouse, keyboard and commands.

  • September 30, 2014 @ 1pm -- Outlook Level 1

Microsoft Outlook 2013 (LEVEL 1) Microsoft Outlook is used for emails and also personal management of information, and is

generally part of the Office suite of applications, although it can be purchased separately as a single application. This course

covers the basic functions and features of Outlook 2013. Email "Netiquette" will be taught as you learn how to read, create,

send, and forward e-mail messages. Students will also learn how to organize messages and attachments, manage your Outlook

calendar and how to create contacts. 1 session on Tuesday, 9/30 from 1-4p, Section #42348. Fee: $35


  • October 1, 2014 @ 7pm -- Apple iOs 101

Apple iOS 101 Learn the basics of using your iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone. You'll learn how to connect to WIFI, customize your

device, take pictures/video, download apps, setup/use e-mail and using I-Cloud with your device. New features and changes

in iOS 8 will also be covered. Students - you will need to take your device to class and please inform those registering you what

type of device you will be taking to class. 3 sessions on Wednesdays, 9/24-10/8 from 7-9p, Section #42372. Fee: $45


  • October 3, 2014 @ 1pm -- Outlook Level 2

Microsoft Outlook 2013 (LEVEL 2) This course will expand on what was learned in the Level 1 Outlook 2013 class. Among the

items that will be taught will be setting up and sharing calendar and contact groups, how to use Outlook tasks, rules, an e-mail

business card and a standardized signature. 1 session on Friday, 10/3 from 1-4p, Section #42351. Fee: $35


  • October 7, 2014 @ 12pm - File Management

File Management Skills (LEVEL 2) Do you need some direction in how to manage your computer and the files stored on your

computer? Topics that will be covered in this class include: file management techniques, transferring files from your computer

to a CD or to a flash drive and vice versa, how to protect your computer and the files stored on it, and how to customize your

Internet Explorer home page. Students are welcome to bring their own laptop to class but computers will be provided for those

who are unable to bring their computers. 1 session on Tuesday, 10/7 from 12:30-4:30p, Section #42354. Fee: $40

backgrounds, graphics, and other features to create letters and to design a simple flyer and newsletter. Also included will be

how to print letters, envelopes and labelsand how to include headers, foots and page numbering. 2 sessions on Tuesdays, 10/

students learn about the use of tabs and tables in a document, how to create Word templates, merging documents, using

comments, format painter, and how to use the remove background feature. 1 session on Tuesday, 10/28 from 12:30-4:30p,
