- At first, I thought this book was just going to be a fun book - you know, a book that doesn't really teach you anything but is a good read. I was wrong. Near the end of the book, Hoodhood learns so much. He learns that you sometimes don't realize how much you love something until you don't have it, and you feel an emptiness in your heart. I agree that you never truly realize your appreciation for something until it is too late, and it's gone. Hoodhood was lucky that it wasn't too late for him though because Heather came home. I also found it interesting that sometimes to find yourself, somebody else has to find you. Here's what I think (it may be wrong). You can't truly discover who you are by yourself. People around you shape who you are, and through them, they help you find who you really are. I loved how what Hoodhood said to his dad near the end of the story. Mr. Hoodhood is sorta a shallow person. Pretty much, all that matters to him is his job. He says that the job is to provide for his family. I really think he took his job in a selfish way. His job became about what he could do, and stuff like that. And he thinks how dare Heather run away because it could affect his job. He's quite selfish, and the mom doesn't really want to stand up against him. She would rather just sit on the outside and not really be a part of it. I like that Hoodhood realized to stand up for what he thinks, and he tells his dad that he doesn't know who he is yet. For me, it seems like life is a journey that God is leading us on to discover who we are in life.
